Following the DNU recently issued by the new administration led by Argentina's top president, Javier Milei, which specifies that it deregulates satellite internet services, it opened the door for Starlink, owned by magnate Elon Musk, to operate in Argentina.

Although the technology company was already authorized in the country since 2021, "for the provision of Information and Communications Technology Services, whether fixed or mobile, wired or wireless, national or international, with or without its own infrastructure", it is confirmed that it is already a fact that citizens will be able to count on a high-speed service through a fleet of satellites that orbit the Earth at a height of about 550 kilometers.

What does Starlink offer?

According to data published by Starlink, unlike a fiber optic service, the service reaches download speeds between 25 and 220 Mbps, although it can exceed 100 megabits per second. While the latency varies between 25 and 60 milliseconds on land and more than 100ms in remote locations.

The service is ideal for companies or users that demand high internet speeds, such as the use of live broadcasts, video calls, playing online video games and many other uses with high demand regarding connection speed.

Who is it intended for?

While the main objective of the internet service is to provide connection to places where there are hardly any internet services such as rural areas or small/remote cities, where fiber optics do not have access and mobile telephone operators cannot mount their 4G or 5G antennas, is not an impediment to contracting for the rest of the consumers who want to benefit from a first-class service.

Estimated prices?

Regarding the subscription, a specific price has not yet been managed, but in most countries They already have the service, it has a monthly cost of USD 120. The self-installable kit that contains the antenna, the router and the corresponding cables has a one-time value of USD 599 (dollars). Although these figures are considered high for any Argentine citizen, they are lower than other internet services that offer between 300 and 500 symmetrical download and upload Mbps.

When will the service be available?

Starlink will begin providing the service from the second quarter of 2024, although they clarify that availability is subject to regulatory approval. Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis in each coverage area.

How to subscribe to the service?

Before subscribing to the service, you must first check availability according to your area. Once this is confirmed, interested parties must subscribe by paying a $9 deposit (excluding taxes), which gives the user priority to later acquire the "Starlink Kit" connection. This deposit is refundable at any time in case of dissatisfaction.
