In this super-accelerated life that we all live and increasingly inundated by technology, the cell phone has become in some way indispensable to stay connected with different daily occupations, work, home, friends, bone, nightlife and more.
We carry it everywhere, we panic when we can't find it. We are constantly monitoring it and we get desperate to charge it when it is running out of battery.
But what no one says is that certain cell phones emit greater electromagnetic radioactive waves which could cause us cancer in the not too distant future.
About electromagnetic radiation
Radiation increases during active phone calls, although exposure continues long afterward.
There are two types of electromagnetic radiation
- Ionizing – high frequency and high energy (X-rays, cosmic rays, etc.)
- Non-ionizing – low frequency and low energy (frequency by radio waves, frequency by energy waves, etc.)
Mobile phones transmit a form of non-ionizing radiation from their antennas. Thanks to this transmission, wireless calls and WiFi connections occur. Nearby body tissues absorb this energy.
Some background
In 2009, a study was published that measured pelvic bone density in 150 men, all of whom had worn their phones attached to their belts for 15 hours a day for about six years.
Scientists discovered that bone mineral density had decreased on the side of the pelvis on which the phone was carried.
There was a case of a woman, with no predisposition to cancer, who became a victim of multifocal breast cancer. His cancer specialists connected the dots, and the pattern and distribution of cancer cells described the shape of his cell phone. This seemed rather peculiar; The woman then explained that she was continually putting her phone in her bra.
What is being done as prevention?
A group of international scientists have appealed to the United Nations, citing research findings, for additional initiatives to protect us from EMF, exposure to electromagnetic fields.
The FCC has created guidelines for measuring radiation in tissue using the specific absorption rate (SAR). The SAR sets a legal maximum for phone radiation at 1.6 watts of absorbed energy per kilogram of body mass. This test uses the thermal effects of phone radiation.
Radiation protection
First of all, get rid of those harmful phones if you have one. Every time you come into contact with it, you will receive an increased amount of radiation.
- Protect children. Children are more susceptible to radiation, and this can cause behavioral, emotional, social, and hyperactivity problems.
- At night, if you can turn it off, it is better; if you cannot, do not place the cell phone on in your bed, under your pillow, or on your nightstand; The weaker the connection, the more power your phone is using and therefore the more dangerous waves can penetrate your body, even deeper.
- Do not carry the phone on your body. Avoid putting your phone in your pocket, belt, or bra like the woman with cancer in the previous study. The fewer layers there are between you and your phone, the more radiation will come into contact with your body.
- Keep your phone 15 centimeters from your body when you are using it. This perimeter is the most dangerous area for radiation. Stay away.
- Do not use your cell phone while it is charging, apart from generating more radiation, you run the risk of it exploding, irreversibly damaging some extremities of your body such as arms and hands, worse still your face, ears and eyes.
- Use shielded headphones or speakers.
We would be going too far if we were able to give up phones entirely. However, using them wisely can save us from unnecessary radiation.
