The National Communications Agency (Enacom) strongly calls for the "responsible use of the Internet" during the period of social, preventive and mandatory isolation that is in effect until March 31 (the possibility of increasing the quarantine period is being analyzed) to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

Today, the Internet is the tool that citizens are using to "work, study and stay connected and informed." That is why it is recommended to use it consciously and optimally so as not to generate collapses in the service.

Tips:

  • 1) Use landlines for voice calls.
  • 2) Use SMS instead of WhatsApp for instant messaging.
  • 3) Avoid communications via streaming or video calls and if necessary, minimize the transmission quality.
  • 4) Avoid sending materials that are not essential .
  • 5) Be precise in your messages to avoid unnecessary back and forth.
  • 6) Use rationally online platforms that involve large consumption on the Internet.
  • 7) Do not viralize chains or unverified information.

In addition, the agency requested "only follow the recommendations provided by official bodies of the national, provincial or municipal government."

The statement bears the signature of the president of Enacom, Claudio Ambrosini.

Furthermore, Enacom released instructional video for the responsible use of the Internet during quarantine. It suggested prioritizing work tools and educational portals. It indicated that streaming videos, video games, and downloads should be reserved for off-peak hours.

The agency also recommended avoiding sending large files to prevent network overload and, instead, compressing them or sending links.

In addition, it urged users to avoid unnecessary downloads and sending mass emails, as well as disconnecting devices when not in use. It suggested coordinating internet usage times with other household members and prioritizing internet access for work and online education.

Optimize your internet use by using educational, information-access, and other relevant applications.

Public communication and teleworking tools, highlighted Enacom.
