The brand new model from the South Korean firm is called Z and was exhibited for the first time at the Tizen Developers Conference in San Francisco. It is the first smartphone with the Tizen operating system and the benchmark for the change of direction that Samsung took after leaving Google's service in the past.

Within Samsung devices, two others have already put the open source Tizen operating system to the test: they are the latest two smart watches Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. However, in terms of smartphones and except for some models with Windows Phone, Samsung used Android for most of its devices.

The Samsung Z will not only be the company's first smartphone to have Tizen, but also the first device of this style in the world to use the platform. As indicated in a press release, this incorporation will ensure a faster and more powerful device in terms of software performance.

Tizen, for its part, is an operating system that uses HTML5 web language and is developed by twelve companies including Samsung and Intel, whose objective is to establish it as the open source platform for future electronic devices, marking itself as a clear competitor to the products of two giants such as Apple and Google.

The Samsung Galaxy Z called "New Premium phone", will have:

  • 4.8-inch Super AMOLED screen with 720p resolution
  • 8 megapixel rear camera
  • 2.1 megapixel front camera.
  • 2,600 mAh battery
  • 2.3 GHz Quad Core processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16 gb internal storage, expandable with microSD card up to 64 gb.
  • It will connect via Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0
  • Support for LTE
  • Remote control functions.
  • Fingerprint scanner
  • Heart sensor
  • Battery saving mode.

The operating system that the Samsung Z has is Tizen Version 2.2.1, which in addition to having integrated favorite applications and an interface with customizable themes and colors, will offer an exclusive store of tools to improve interaction with the computer.

It is estimated that it will go on sale in the last quarter of 2014 and the available colors will be black and gold.

While it is true that the Samsung Z is the first mobile with Tizen, it is not yet known if from now on, all the others will have that operating system, so it is still in the testing phase and users will give their approval or not. What is known is that in the future, if Samsung decided not to use Android anymore, Google would have to focus a lot on its own mobile phones, because it would lose a good part of the market.

To finish, I leave you a video made by the Cnet channel, which performs a first analysis of the Samsung Z's functionalities
