NEW LEGISLATION IN ARGENTINA ALLOWS THE ENTRY OF TECHNOLOGICAL PRODUCTS INTO THE COUNTRY WITHOUT DECLARING THEM

The measure was made official through general resolution 4315 published in the Official Gazette and seeks to update a regulation issued in 1994, when smartphones did not exist.

These are products that can be intended for personal use or to be gifts, provided that their quantity, nature or variety does not allow it to be presumed that they are imported or exported for commercial or industrial purposes.

Why was this change made?

The previous regulations were from 1994, when there were no technological products that are currently in common and personal use, such as personal computers and telephones cell phones.

What benefits does this change generate?

It simplifies procedures and costs for the traveler, while it allows Customs to make more efficient use of its controls, to allocate them to the seizure of dangerous or high-value merchandise.

When leaving the country with a cell phone, notebook or tablet, do I have to declare them?

For the new regulations to apply, before traveling you must declare the objects at the customs office. Customs.

If I purchase a new product of any of these items, can I return to the country with both products - the one I declared and the one purchased abroad - without paying customs duty and/or franchise? customs duties.

Do I need to bring my purchase invoice, even if I do not have to declare the product?

No. Starting today, cell phones, notebooks and tablets will be able to enter the country without paying customs duties

Can I bring two tablets or notebooks if I do not bring a new cell phone?

Yes, but in the case of a second new unit, the 50% tariff must be declared and paid above the US$ 300 deductible

How can I enter these purchases?

This change applies to entry via land or river, sea or air.

For the new regulations to work, you must declare the objects that you take with you when leaving the country.

If I buy via Courier or Official Mail (Door to Door), do I have to pay the customs duty?

Yes, since the new regulations do not apply to purchases made under the International Postal Shipping Regime.

What happens with the entry of clothing or toys that are supposed to be for personal use but that Customs sometimes charges deductibles and/or tariffs?

Objects that are for personal use and not for commercial purposes were already contemplated in RG 3751/94. Therefore, they do not have to be declared or pay customs duties. With the new regulations, notebooks, tablets or cell phones are added.
