During a presentation today, in which the company confirmed that Windows 10 already has 110 million users (most of them taking advantage of the possibility of upgrading for free from Windows 7 or 8), Microsoft presented two new tablets in the Surface line, the Pro 4 and the Book. And it renewed its Lumia line with three new models. Two of them are high-end, a segment in which it has not competed in recent times, focusing on more modest hardware models.

This is not the case of the Lumia 950 and 950XL, which fulfill the company's promise of offering a pocket computer that serves as a smartphone or as a conventional computer using an adapter (in the style of Motorola's Atrix, but as a more integrated bet), thanks to the fact that they run Windows 10 Mobile, which uses the same operating system present in the PC and tablets, and takes advantage of so-called universal applications, which adapt their interface to the screen size of the device in use.

The Lumia 950 has a six-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chip and a 5.2-inch OLED screen; the 950XL, a Snapdragon 810 and a 5.7-inch screen; both with QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels), 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage -and slot to expand memory-, a 20 megapixel camera with triple flash, Carl Zeiss lenses, f/1.9 aperture, optical image stabilization and 4K video recording.

It also has a 5 megapixel front camera with iris recognition (via infrared) to unlock the phone and USB-C connector (reversible) with Qualcomm's fast charging solution (Quick Charge 2.0) for the 3000 mAh (950) or 3340 mAh (950XL) battery. During the presentation, the company explained that the devices use a liquid (passive) cooling solution for the processor, although it did not give more details about how it works.

The equipment, like the Acer Jade Primo presented in September during the IFA fair, marks Microsoft's commitment to a universal computing solution, called Continuum in Windows 10: when the phone is connected to a special base (the Display Dock) it can be linked to a monitor, a keyboard, a mouse and transformed into a conventional desktop PC, using the same applications, the content stored on the phone, etc. The dock has an HDMI and DisplayPort connection, a USB-C output to charge the phone while in use, and USB ports for peripherals.

According to Microsoft, the Lumia 950 will have a price in the United States of $549 starting in November, while the Lumia 950XL will be around $650.

The third model it presented is the Lumia 550, the successor to its workhorse (the 5xx family). is the best-selling in the world Windows Phone): with a 4.7-inch AMOLED screen (1280 x 720 pixels), 1 GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chip, 8 GB of internal storage (expandable by microSD), 4G, FM radio, 5 megapixel main and 2 megapixel front camera, 1900 mAh battery and an international price of 140 dollars. Available in December in the main markets around the world.
