Netlix subscribers often resort to VPNs, proxies and different methods to access series or movies not available in their countries.
Then, through various mechanisms, they manage to watch content before it is available locally, something that goes against the commercial agreements that Netflix owns the distributors.
"If all our content were available globally there would be no reason for subscribers to use proxies or unblockers," wrote the vice president of architecture of Netflix content delivery, David Fullagar.
Netflix aspires for the industry to adopt its working mechanism: when it releases one of its original series, the content is available throughout the world at the same time, without any type of limit.
Fullagar added that they work to break the barriers imposed by the film industry in terms of the availability of content. "An example of this is that Netflix is now available in 190 countries," he explained.
With a tone of resignation in the face of the blockade that they will have to implement, Fullagar said that Netflix's intention is to offer movies and series at the same time around the world but that, "for now, we have to apply the historical practice of content licensing by territory, that is, the programming we offer is different in each territory. We are going to respect and enforce content licenses."
The blocking of methods for Bypassing content restrictions by country will begin in a few weeks, Netflix explained.
