The presenter who broadcasts the video live to viewers, whether they are friends or strangers, is widely used when there is breaking news.
In Periscope the videos are in real time, and you can broadcast it for the next 24 hours if you want, so that your followers can play it and also save it on your mobile.
Let's look at its main features:
Contents
In Periscope you can find a wide variety of videos on live, but taking into account that it is closely related to Twitter, those related to breaking news predominate. The transmission quality is quite good without cuts, something that the application has refined quite a bit since its inception, the videos do not boast exaggerated quality which allows a fluid transmission.
Interactions occur in two ways:
- With hearts, in the same way as on Twitter and the equivalent of a Facebook Like.
- Make comments on the video
- The recorded videos are temporary, they have a period of 24 hours in which they can be They can be viewed online and then they are deleted. Recently, Periscope incorporated a functionality that allows you to save transmissions for more than 24 hours hours
Interface and uses
It has an interface similar to Twitter, at the top of the mobile there are four icons: a television that shows you recent views and broadcasts; a map that allows you to see the Periscope broadcasts that are taking place or have recently taken place near you or in a specific area of the city where you live and click on the ones that interest you; an index with the broadcasts that are being made live, ordered by their relevance (based on the number of followers the Periscope user has, or if you follow them); and a user menu that shows featured users and trends, and allows you to search for certain people.
At the bottom right of the screen, a large red button with a camera icon allows you to start your own broadcast at any time. If you want to broadcast a video, you must assign it a title, location, whether it is published on Twitter or not, and whether it is a public, private, or limited video for certain followers. During the broadcast we can see the messages of other users who can interact with us.
The negative
Periscope has a problem with images of explicit sexual content. There are many profiles that take advantage of streaming to broadcast nude or directly pornographic images, despite the fact that these uses are explicitly prohibited in the application's conditions of use.

Its History
Periscope was developed by Kayvon Beykpour and Joe Bernstein.
Kayvon was in Turkey in the summer of 2013, at that time protests were taking place in Takshim Square and, when searching for information about what was happening, he found comments on Twitter, but no international television was broadcasting what was happening. With so many people in the square, most of them with mobile phones, why not be able to see it? From there the idea of developing the streaming video application was born and Periscope emerged a few months later.
