Although there is a history of a similar functionality on Twitter from a couple of years ago, it is currently unknown why it was removed at the time without any explanation.

This functionality is quite ambiguous and has interesting implications. Now it is not necessary to follow someone to be able to contact them, which benefits business profiles, since they will not need to follow their clients to communicate with them. Although this functionality allows for more effective communication, there are likely to be complaints from users who feel affected by receiving messages from someone they have not previously authorized.

As usual with Twitter, they care about all the details and this functionality is optional, meaning you can enable or disable it according to your preferences. Here's how to do it:

From the desktop version:

  1. Click on your profile and then Settings (where your photo or logo is located).
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. In the left side panel, click on Security & Privacy.
  4. At the bottom of the page, you'll find the "Direct Messages" option.
  5. Check or uncheck the box depending on your preference. convenience.

On the mobile version:

  1. Click on options (the three vertical dots).
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click on Privacy.
  4. Look for the “Receive messages from anyone” option. Check or uncheck the box depending on your preference. In the image above, it is highlighted in red for clarity.

Lastly, it remains to be seen how successful this functionality will be and whether users will adapt to it or not. Only time will tell. However, what is certain is that with this new functionality, Twitter will achieve greater interaction between users.
