Snapchat went public and got off to a great start. Valued at $24 billion, the social network created by Evan Spiegel aims to become the successor to Facebook although it runs the risk of emulating Twitter's footsteps.

In this way, the popular app for teenagers exceeded expectations, 200,000,000 shares are for sale on the New York Stock Exchange at an initial price of USD 17, the highest valuation of an American technology company since Facebook in 2012.

But... What makes it so popular?

01

Success among young people

Its user network is made up of young people; it is estimated that 75% of the generation of young people who were born with a mobile phone in their hands have already used it.

Snapchat knows its target and understands what they want. That is the difference between Facebook that adopts older users such as those in their thirties and forties

02

Constant growth

The figures for the last quarter of 2016 have shown a new record of daily users on the application: 156 million.

Still far from the more than a thousand that Facebook accumulates but the trend is still upward, although in recent quarters growth seems to have decreased a little.

03

There are no traces left in time

One of the factors that explains the success of Snapchat is its instantaneousness

You can upload a photo so that your contacts know what you are doing without having to worry about what they will say in the future. A few hours later, goodbye photo and goodbye worry.

04

Fun

Snapchat was one of the first to add facial masks and all kinds of tricks to the images its users uploaded.

This is one of the points in which they have been able to connect with their young audience.

05

The brands present

Brands and media are present on Snapchat using it to get their news and products to readers.

06

Your own glasses

In the US it has launched glasses called Spectacles, which have caused a sensation among users.

They allow you to record short videos as well as capture images. At the moment they can only be purchased online in the United States.

There's no doubt that Snapchat is the app of the moment; it's no wonder Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp try to copy its stories functionality without managing to displace it.

Remember that Mark Zuckerberg tried to buy it for $3 billion some time ago without any success.

Time will tell; for now, let's just enjoy it.
