Although Microsoft has sold more than 80 million units since 2005, it has decided to end the manufacture of the Xbox 360. This is what its director expressed on the firm's official blog.
The Xbox 360 represents a lot for us at Microsoft and although we have enjoyed it a lot, manufacturing a product that is more than a decade old is beginning to be difficult, so we have decided to stop making it
-- Director of the Xbox division, Phill Spencer
The debut of the Xbox 360 marked a milestone in the video game market and posed a serious threat to companies that then had the leadership, such as Sony. Its successor is now the Xbox One, which Microsoft introduced in 2013.
Microsoft has sold more than 80 million units of the console since its debut in 2005. "We know there are many active Xbox 360 players, and we will continue to support our users. Of course, they will maintain access to Xbox Live and multiplayer games, among other options. The Xbox Live servers will also remain active for those who have an Xbox 360," the company said in an official statement.
To conclude, the company stated:
We know that there are many active Xbox 360 players, and we will continue to provide support to our users. Of course, they will maintain access to Xbox Live and multiplayer games, among other options. Xbox Live servers will also remain active for those who have an Xbox 360
