About Solana

SOL is the native cryptocurrency of Solana, with a current total of 500 million coins. Of these, 36.2% were sold to private investors in four closed sale rounds; 12.8% was allocated to the Solana team, and an additional 10.4% was dedicated to the Solana Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to educating the public and disseminating knowledge about blockchain technology. The remaining 39% will be used within the Solana community as a reward for node validators.

Solana's algorithm allows for processing between 50,000 and 65,000 transactions per second, theoretically with an upper limit of 70,000 transactions per second.

Bitcoin in comparison SOL can only process 7 transactions per second, while Ethereum can process 15 transactions per second. SOL's market capitalization in early April 2021 exceeded $7 billion.
